When Boubacar Kamara decided to swap Marseille, set to play in the Champions League, for Aston Villa last summer, it was quite a controversial decision.

After all, it was his childhood club, and the player even got told off by Samir Nasri for the manner of his exit, as he didn’t even help the Ligue 1 side make any money from his move.

While that wasn’t the best look for him in his home country, the general consensus after a year at Aston Villa is that it was the right move for the player, as explained by journalist Jean-Luc Arribart when speaking to La Provence.

The midfielder is now with the France national team for the 2024 Euro Qualifiers, and with a few absences in the heart of the squad, there might be a role for him to play in the next two games.

Either way, his experience gained at Aston Villa should help him a lot, according to Arribart.

He said: “He’s taken an extra dimension. You need to understand English football to measure the aura of clubs like Aston Villa. The Vélodrome is certainly one of the best in France. Villa Park, they scream, they sing. Fans are passionate, they love the team and the players.

“Kamara did well to go to Aston Villa. He can be seen. He lifted doubts on his ability to play for a big English club. It’s a good career choice, a good step. He didn’t waste his time.”
