During the winter market, Ronaldo Vieira was repeatedly, and strongly, linked with a return to Leeds United.

The player has seriously struggled with injuries since he left the Elland Road club in 2018 for Sampdoria, and the suggestion was the Whites had offered themselves as a destination to help get his career back on track.

Before the Leeds United move was thought to be on the verge of happening, Vieira had been close to signing for Sheffield United in the summer window. That deal failed, reportedly due to his lack of fitness, and there was a lot of worry around the 23-year-old.

ClubDoria46 say ‘only the details’ were missing on a move to Leeds, presumably around the basis, loan or otherwise, about his arrival at the club. After the return collapsed, worry grew again, but things are now looking brighter.

Making his first Serie A appearance of the season in January, the midfielder has gone on to add to his minutes.

ClubDoria46 say Sampdoria’s manager, who obviously been impressed, has a ‘leading role’ for the player in the future.

That means he probably doesn’t need Leeds United to come and save him in the summer, and, fingers-crossed, things go well from here for a player who has had his share of bad luck.
