Crystal Palace should soon have the chance to sign Uruguayan fullback Mateo Ponte.

The 20-year-old, who’s been standing out in his country playing for Danubio, seems to be on the verge of a move to Botafogo.

As reported by the likes of Gazeta Esportiva and Globo Esporte, the Brazilian side have a personal agreement with him and now made an official offer for the transfer.

Now, what Crystal Palace have to do with this is that Botafogo are owned by the John Textor, who’s a shareholder at the Selhurst Park side.

Both reports claims that when negotiating with Ponte, the Rio de Janeiro club he could end up having the chance to move to one of Textor’s clubs, with that being Lyon or the Eagles, ‘depending on his performance’.

It’s claimed that the player liked the idea and that’s one of the reasons why he accepted the switch.

Crystal Palace aren’t the only other club owned by Textor, but is certainly the one in the best league, so in case Ponte does really well in Brazil, that’s now a destination he can look up to.
