Spanish newspaper Marca spent the first half of the summer talking up Paul Pogba and Zinedine Zidane’s interest in the then Juventus midfielder, and the second half of the summer explaining how Real Madrid had never really fancied the player anyway.

In July we covered their reporting: ‘Marca went to quite some length to explain that had Real Madrid wanted Paul Pogba then they would have got him. Yes, he’s very expensive, but Marca explained that Real Madrid would have found a way to do the deal.’

Not so, say Marca on Christmas Eve, admitting that Zidane is a huge fan of Pogba, has been for years, and his ‘great wish’ was to sign the midfielder over the summer.

Pogba is happy with his new life at Manchester United and enjoying the return to a club where he climbed through the ranks.

Real Madrid were defeated, and even Marca are starting to admit it.
