Brighton & Hove Albion striker Neal Maupay is a target for Salernitana, who have already seen a €15m bid rejected by the Seagulls.
That’s according to TV Oggi Salerno and Gazzetta Dello Sport, who both cover the Italian side’s interest in the forward today.
First, the former, who report that Maupay is on the list of potential strikers that Salernitana are looking at this summer.
He’s one of several options, but Brighton have to make a decision about him as his contract is set to expire next summer, and there’s no sign of a new contract as yet.
This is partly backed up by Gazzetta, who say Maupay is the alternative option for Salernitana, but his valuation of €15m is too high for them. They would prefer to negotiate a deal on a different basis, although what that is, isn’t made clear.
They do, though, state that news on the potential deal is ‘expected soon’, perhaps as early as tomorrow.
This is backed up by journalist Gianluca di Marzio, who says there are ‘decisive hours’ ahead in the negotiations between the two sides. According to him, ‘today will be the day’ for the move.
His information is that Salernitana have raised their offer to €7-8m, which is still far from Brighton’s asking price of €15m. The parties are ‘working to find an agreement’.
TV Oggi, meanwhile, say Maupay has already given his ‘positive approval’ for negotiations to take place.
According to them, though, ‘work is also underway’ for Salernitana to find an agreement on the image and sponsorship rights that the Brighton man has. That would suggest negotiations might take a little longer to conclude than the 24 hours Gazzetta claim.
Either way, Salernitana are keen on Maupay, and negotiations are underway to find an agreement that suits all parties.
