Belgium manager Roberto Martinez revealed that Crystal Palace striker Christian Benteke is struggling with a knee injury on September 5th.

The former Liverpool man is yet to open his account for the Eagles this season, but that hasn’t stopped him from receiving a call-up from the national team coach. However, the latest setback has forced him to withdraw from the squad.

Het Belang van Limburg explains the 27-year-old’s situation in Thursday’s edition, and the Belgian newspaper claims the player is struggling with the ‘burden’ of the knee injury and he needs sufficient rest.

It’s even claimed the ex-Aston Villa frontman will miss the majority of the fixtures this month as he is expected to return to the pitch at the end of September.

Roy Hodgson’s side have three fixtures scheduled before the start of October as they face Huddersfield Town and Newcastle United in the league followed by the Carabao Cup clash against West Bromwich Albion. According to HBVL, Benteke is expected to miss the above mentioned fixtures.
