Crystal Palace’s attempt to sign Matheus França from Flamengo was unsuccessful, according to reports from Brazil.

Last week, it was claimed the Eagles were about to put €15m on the table for the transfer, as they tried to beat Chelsea in the race for the youngster.

Now as O Dia journalist Venê Casagrande shares some updates on this pursuit, he claims the bid was turned down, and brings many details about that.

It’s claimed that Crystal Palace indeed offered €15m, and there was a potential €5m in bonuses.

The Eagles wanted to pay €50k for each ten appearances França had at the club, with a limit of 400 games, totalling €2m. Then there was €2m if he started 20 Premier League games and the club qualified for the Champions League. Plus another €1m if he started 20 league games and they qualified for the Europa League.

Flamengo didn’t like the offer and turned it down. Still, according to Casagrande, Crystal Palace haven’t given up and want to raise their bid.

The Rio de Janeiro club were even told about how much this new offer will be… €18m up front plus €7m in bonuses.

Only in case the official bid arrives, Flamengo will analyse it. Their initial request had been €25m, so Crystal Palace are getting closer to that.
