Diego Costa’s constant state of fragility is something which is well known to the Spanish national team. Pulling out of previous squads, there were suggestions in Spain that the Chelsea striker wasn’t committed enough to the cause, and opinion slightly turned against him.

Costa’s hamstring issues date back to his time with Atletico Madrid, and are just something which needs to be managed, but the Chelsea star’s latest worry is his groin.

Antonio Conte and Chelsea are clearly keen for Spain to be just as careful with Costa as the Premier League club’s medical department is.

Marca say there is ‘no reason for alarm’ over the Chelsea player, although they do point out that he arrived very tired after his efforts at club level.

Spain face Macedonia on Saturday, it may be an idea to let Costa sit it out. With other Spanish strikers also in good form, perhaps he wouldn’t have been picked anyway.
