Towards the end of Wednesday, we covered a lengthy situation involving Manchester United Women and their pursuit of Ona Batlle.
It all stemmed from the fact Levante, the defender’s current club, had requested €500k in compensation should the player move on a free to another club in the Primera Iberdrola as her contract is up at the end of the month.
For foreign clubs, however, that fee would not need to be paid, which is why the player has now decided to move to Manchester United instead of Real Madrid (currently known as CD Tacón).
It’s explained by El Confidencial that the ‘exorbitant’ fee the latter would have to pay has led to her to this choice in order to avoid ‘possible problems’ if she waited for a move to the Spanish giants, a team described as the one she wanted to join not only for football reasons, but ‘especially’ personal ones.
Batlle, who started her career at Barcelona, is a 21-year-old year old who plays at full-back, and has played for Madrid CFF in the past before moving to her current side Levante in 2018.
She has five caps for Spain after representing her country at U17, U19 and U20 level.
