There’s a reason why Porto are also worried about the injury of Liverpool star Luis Diaz.
As today written by Portuguese newspaper A Bola, the games missed by the Colombian player this season could stop the Dragons of making a couple of millions.
It’s said that when Liverpool and Porto agreed his transfer in January for a fee of €45m, there were other €15m in bonuses, and those were related to qualifications for the Champions League, appearances and goals.
According to A Bola, the Dragons get €1m each time the Reds go to the European tournament, other €1m for every ‘block’ of 25 appearances where Diaz stays on the pitch for at least 45 minutes, and €1m for every ‘block’ of 15 goals scored by the player. Each of those bonuses can be triggered for up to five times, resulting on those €15m.
That means that following his knee injury, it’s very unlikely he could reach 25 games before the summer, since he’s only expected to return playing for Liverpool in March.
That’s €1m Porto won’t be able to make. Regarding the remaining five goals, A Bola believes he could still get that in the final games of the season, but that will depend on his recovery.
The truth is that Diaz as a contract with the Reds running until 2027, and there’s plenty of time for him to reach those objectives, but every penny counts in world football, and the sooner Porto get them, the happier they will be.
