Tottenham Hotspur’s pursuit of Sporting’s Pedro Porro continues to get wide coverage in the Portuguese media.

On Thursday, Record reported the north London club’s offer of €40m plus €5m bonuses was not accepted by the Lions.

Sporting insist the right-back will only be sold if they receive €45m, which is the price of his release clause. They also want this to be paid in the short term, while Tottenham want to spread it across several years.

Record on Friday explain the concept of the release clause means a lot to the Primeira Liga side. It matters to them and this is why Porro will only be able to join Tottenham if they pay €45m ‘cash’.

All parties will have to work out an understanding and this would be made possible by Sporting, if they were to receive the fee in cash.

Sporting insist on this as a ‘matter of principle’.

Porro’s former club, Manchester City, will receive 30% of the fee, meaning Sporting will be entitled to earn €34.1m from the player’s potential sale to Tottenham.

Record’s title states Tottenham ‘give €45m’ and agree to give up at least part of the potential fee they would earn from Marcus Edwards’s future sale. They are now told to pay up his clause in cash or risk jeopardising the operation.
