Earlier today we covered claims from Salzburger Nachrichten that RB Leipzig, and not Manchester United, are currently best placed to sign Erling Haaland.

It was claimed Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s Friday trip for talks was ‘probably unsuccessful’ for United’s hopes, despite Ed Woodward having gone with him.

Red Bull Salzburg of course have close connections with RB Leipzig, which could be where the assumption is coming from, and may be an advantage over Manchester United. The German club’s manager Julian Nagelsmann has also spoken positively about talks he’s held with Haaland’s camp.

At a press conference last week the manager said: “I tried to tell him in good English what my idea of football was. I think it went quite well.”

Nagelsmann went on to say he couldn’t be sure of the outcome because “because they (talks) are very one-sided, you tell too much as a coach. The player and his advisor listen a lot”.

Well, this hasn’t gone down at all well with Kronen Zeitung editor Christoph Nister, who believes the manager going public is ‘bottom-drawer’ behaviour.

Nister states: ‘Perhaps one should have advised the gentlemen in Leipzig not to say anything at all. Just as the Dortmunders did. The people of Leipzig are already top athletes, but they have a lot of catching up to do in many other areas.’

Meow.

Just like Borussia Dortmund officials, Solskjaer was also cagey when the Manchester United manager was asked about his efforts to convince Haaland.
