What started off as a random rumour from an apparent in-the-know AC Milan Twitter account back in January has become a fully fledged story heading into the summer transfer window.
We are, of course, talking about André Silva to Wolverhampton Wanderers, and Jorge Mendes helping his protégé escape from his Italian struggles.
Tuttosport explain on Friday that before AC Milan go along with the Portuguese agent’s wishes, he will need to offer them either a good offer (they spent €38m on the young striker last summer) or a replacement, which is where Monaco come in.
There have been rumblings that Falcao could head the other way if the Ligue 1 side decided to gamble on André Silva, but the interest from Wolves could complicate that theory.
And there is interest, at least according to Tuttopsort, from Nuno Espirito Santo’s side.
The Italian newspaper state AC Milan ‘seem intent on making cash’ from an André Silva sale in the summer, and with Jorge Mendes having his fingers firmly planted in the Wolves and Monaco pies, they appear to two most likely sides to come forward.
The 22-year-old has only scored two league goals in 23 Serie A appearances, finding most of his joy in the Europa League, where he bagged 6 in 10.
That, however, doesn’t appear to have been enough to convince AC Milan he can turn things around next season, and the bottom line of all this is: if the right offer comes along, they’ll accept it.
Now we need to wait and see how far this Wolverhampton Wanderers interest actually goes.
PS: We warned you this would happen.
