Giving it a go in January, Fiorentina failed in their attempt to sign Giovani Lo Celso on loan from Tottenham.
Instead, the Argentine went to Villarreal, where he enjoyed a very successful spell, helping them go much further than anticipated in the Champions League.
He has since returned to Tottenham, despite the Spanish side wanting to sign him permanently, giving other clubs a chance to lure him.
Fiorentina could give that another go if a couple of reports are to be believed, with the first mention of it in Italy pushed by La Nazione on Monday.
They recall the Serie A side ‘had tried to realise’ a deal with Tottenham for the midfielder ‘during the January transfer market’, but the negotiation with Spurs simply ‘did not take off’.
His and the potential move for Samuel Umtiti are seen as ‘suggestions’ for the time being, and Tuttosport throw their similar two cents into the ring on Tuesday.
Just like the idea of the French defender joining Fiorentina, the one involving the Tottenham midfielder ‘remains’, now that he is ‘back from a brilliant season on loan at Villarreal’.
Previous reports have suggested Spurs would be open to selling their player this summer, seemingly willing to capitalise on his good form while they still can.
Lo Celso’s contract at Tottenham is due to expire in 2025, meaning they can afford to send him out on another loan should they wish to do so.
