Milan’s reported interest in Liverpool’s Dejan Lovren is a story that doesn’t want to go away, as the Croatia international remains on the Italian side’s wishlist for the summer.
According to Gazzetta dello Sport on Monday, the defender is second on Paolo Maldini’s list of targets to bolster the backline behind Stuttgart’s Ozan Kabak.
The 19-year-old, who has a €15m release clause, seems to be the ideal man for Marco Giampaolo’s new look Milan, but in case of ‘black smoke’, meaning a transfer cannot happen, the Italians are ‘ready to turn’ towards Lovren.
As has been previously claimed, the idea of signing the Liverpool centre-back has ‘already been discussed’ in Milan with an intermediary, which led to the knowledge that a transfer involving the Champions League winner would cost around €20m.
The 29-year-old somewhat fell out of favour this season, featuring just 18 times throughout the entire 2018-19 campaign after playing 43 games the previous year.
With Jürgen Klopp favouring either Joe Gomez or Joel Matip alongside Virgil Van Dijk instead, perhaps it is time for the World Cup runner-up to look elsewhere, and there’s clearly a few takers out there.
