Whenever he’s fit, Pontus Jansson is one of the first names on the team sheet at Brentford FC, but he has been out for the past three games.
Struggling with a hamstring injury, the 31-year-old has yet to return to Thomas Frank’s line-up, and his contract at the club is up in the summer.
Brentford do have an option to extend it for an extra year if they so wish, but that could also depend on the player’s desire, as he has never hidden his desire to return to Sweden in the future.
He would want to do so with Malmö, where he started his career, and the Swedish club are also keen to bring him back.
This is according to Aftonbladet, relayed by Fotbollskanalen, who report the club are ‘working to sign the centre-back from Brentford’.
In fact, they would be ‘ready to invest substantial money’ to get the job done, and ‘first contact is said to have been made’.
The Brentford defender first left Malmö in 2014, when he was signed by Torino on a free transfer, where he stayed until 2017, before being bought by Leeds United for £3.6m.
He then left the Elland Road side two years later for the Bees, where he has been key to their success ever since.
