Following the news in England that AS Monaco were getting close to signing Arsenal’s Folarin Balogun, the French press come forward with their version of events.

Unfortunately for fans of the Gunners who want the USA international to stick around, it doesn’t appear like that will be the case.

L’Equipe cover it in a short article on Friday, and explain the principality side are getting closer to signing the Arsenal forward.

The latest offer from the Ligue 1 club allowed the two parties to ‘get closer’ to an agreement, and those in charge at Monaco were ‘rather confident’ about getting a transfer over the line.

If they are to sign him, the deal would be done for ‘around €40m’, with a five-year contract being offered to the 22-year-old, which is quite a long way off Arsenal’s initial demands of £50m, or €58m.

As to why Balogun is getting sold, it’s said that he simply doesn’t have ‘the trust’ from Mikel Arteta, despite excelling on loan at Stade de Reims last season, where he scored 21 goals in Ligue 1.
