Swiss side Winterthur are set to pocket a little bit more than €500k courtesy of Manuel Akanji’s deadline day move to Manchester City.
That’s according to Blick, who explain how the Super League side have ended up benefitting from Manchester City’s last-minute deal.
The defender completed his move to the Etihad yesterday, with City paying €17.5m to Borussia Dortmund to secure an alternative to Aymeric Laporte.
He’s set to spend at least two months on the sidelines, prompting Manchester City into the late move for Akanji to provide further competition in their defence.
Few, if anyone, predicted they would have made a move for Akanji, and it seems the move has ended up being beneficial for more than just them and the player.
Blick explain that Winterthur, the club where Akanji began his career, were given a ‘late present’ from the deal thanks to FIFA regulations.
They had already pocketed money from Remi Freuler’s move to Nottingham Forest and are now getting ‘a little more than half a million’ from Akanji’s €17.5m move to the Etihad.
That money will be more than welcomed, it seems, and probably have more clubs hoping their former trainees can be lured to the Etihad or other big clubs in future.
