VfB Stuttgart will need to pay a club record fee if they wish to sign Deniz Undav on a permanent basis from Brighton and Hove Albion next summer.

That’s according to Kicker, relayed by Sport.de, who cover the striker today after a solid start to life on loan with the German side.

Undav joined Stuttgart on loan from Brighton in the summer transfer window after a difficult year with the Seagulls, where he had found himself replaced by emerging star Evan Ferguson.

He’s made a good start back in Germany, managing two goals and an assist in three games in the Bundesliga so far, despite only featuring in 8% of the possible minutes.

He was the ‘decisive man’ again in the recent win in Cologne, bagging a brace in the 2-0 victory and proving himself as the perfect alternative to Serhou Guirassy.

His future at the club is ‘unclear’, though, as his loan deal from Brighton expires in the summer and includes a purchase clause that would be hard for Stuttgart to activate.

According to Kicker’s information, the fee is set at ‘more than €12m’ a figure that would see them breaking their club record transfer fee.

Paying it depends on several factors, with Serhou Guirassy’s future seemingly a key factor. Were he to leave, and for a big sum, that would push Stuttgart to sign Undav permanently.

He’s been linked with a move away from the club next summer after a flying start to the season and thanks to the existence of a €20m release clause, which the club are trying to increase so they can raise even more money from a sale.

The millions secured from his departure could then be put into a deal to sign Undav from Brighton permanently, and he would help to fill the void left by his partner’s departure.
