Napoli are interested in West Ham defender Nayef Aguerd, according to reports from the Italian media.

Newspaper Corriere Dello Sport today feature a story detailing several chases the Serie A champions have been involved in, and one of them is for a new centre-back.

Among the many options on the table, there’s the one for Aguerd, who just had one season playing for West Ham.

Calling the 27-year-old a ‘colossus’, the report says the Moroccan is being analysed and could soon ‘join the project’.

The problem is that West Ham demand €35m for his transfer, and according to Corriere, that ‘hurts the soul’ of Napoli’s board.

With Aguerd being just one of their options, they’re likely to go after cheaper alternatives in the market, with Stuttgart’s Konstantinos Mavropanos being the ‘reference profile’ for them.

West Ham signed Aguerd in a €35m deal from Rennes last summer. His injuries stopped him from having an immediate impact following his arrival in London, but he soon conquered his place in the team and drew some attention for his first season in England.

He’s protected by the Hammers with a contract until 2027.
