It’s been a few days since the Portuguese media started claiming that Benfica have an agreement for Roger Schmidt to be their manager next season.

However, in a piece today written by newspaper Correio da Manhã, it’s said there are people at the club who hope that president Rui Costa changes his mind and chases another candidate. That’s Wolverhampton Wanderers boss Bruno Lage.

Those who want the Wolves coach back at Benfica have a strong argument for that. They believe he’s the fans’ favourite, as his name is frequently mentioned in social media and messages from club members.

Correio da Manhã points out that Lage still has ‘credit’ for the 2018/19 league title, and his ‘good work’ done at the Molineux is seen as a ‘proof’ that he could take charge of the Eagles again.

Correio da Manhã, however, also points out that Lage’s priority right now would be to continue with his career at Wolves.

Inspired by the likes of Nuno Espírito Santo and Marco Silva, he also wants the chance of taking charge of ‘more competitive’ clubs.

The newspaper says his agent Jorge Mendes ‘will be decisive’ for the manager to achieve that.

Meanwhile, people at Benfica believe the representative is back on being close with the Eagles, and could try to convince Lage to return to Portugal from his spot in Wolverhampton.
