West Ham’s Pedro Obiang to Sampdoria is quickly becoming one of the more interesting rumours in the Italian press these days, partly due to the fact it’s quite new and hasn’t tested our patience… yet.

Today’s update comes in two parts: one from Gazzetta dello Sport and the other from local newspaper Il Secolo XIX.

We’ll start with the national newspaper, who claim Tuesday is a ‘key’ day for the potential transfer, but that Sampdoria’s offer, so far, has yet to convince West Ham.

However, the Serie A club are banking on the midfielder convincing the Hammers to accept the offer and help them get the deal over the line.

If that doesn’t work and no agreement is reached in the next 48 hours, Sampdoria will then move onto other targets.

Over in Genoa, Il Secolo XIX don’t believe transfer talks are as advanced, claiming Monday was an ‘important day’ for the operation, as West Ham were still waiting for the Italian side’s ‘official offer’, said to be close to €12m.

It had yet to arrive late in the evening, and with the Hammers not ‘particularly convinced to sell him’, only a ‘financial correct transfer offer’ would change their mind.

That, mixed with Obiang’s desire to move back to Italy, is their best hope, but with time ticking by, and the start of the Premier League season just around the corner, Sampdoria will need to move quickly.
