During the past week, it has been a routine for us to read three or four stories about the Celtic midfielder Olivier Ntcham in the Portuguese press every day.

The local newspapers had been claiming that Porto were really interested in the player, even though the demands from the Scottish side were making the deal hard to be concluded.

But on Friday, when the transfer window closes, only one outlet brings an update on the situation. That’s A Bola.

They say that Ntcham is now ‘more distant’ from Porto. That’s because the Portuguese side are unlikely to match the price demanded by Celtic, which is said to be €17m.

Porto are even signing another player for the midfield position, making it clear that Ntcham is no longer needed at the club.

According to Radio Renascença this week, Celtic were keen on accepting Porto’s offer, but held the player due to Brendan Rodgers’ wish, and will now offer him a new contract.
