Vasco da Gama may not have announced the signing of Andrey Santos from Chelsea yet, but they’re actually getting ready to ensure he gets his new debut for the club.

That’s now explained by Brazilian outlet Globo Esporte, who reports that the Cruzmaltino are sorting the final issues of the player’s signing.

It’s said that following the agreement with Chelsea and the midfielder, Vasco already registered him with FERJ, which is Rio de Janeiro’s football federation.

They’re acting fast so Andrey can play in the state championship at the weekend, but there’s a pending document in that registration, which is the ‘scanned contract’ with the CBF, Brazil’s football federation, so he can be able to feature in any tournaments in the country.

There’s a reason why Vasco did that in this order.

That’s because FERJ’s deadline was on Wednesday, and CBF’s is on Friday. So if everything goes according to plan, the midfielder will be able to play against Flamengo in the big derby on Sunday.

Vasco are still to announce the agreement with Chelsea, but they’re apparently getting it all done before doing so.

Andrey is moving on a loan until July, as the Blues expect him to get his work permit in Brazil and be back to London pretty soon.

EDIT: This article was published at 1.10pm, and five minutes later, Vasco da Gama announced the arrival of Andrey Santos.

We honestly couldn’t make this up.
