In the past few days, we’ve seen a lot of rumours about João Mario’s departure from Inter Milan, which should happen in the January window.
The player is turning out to be a flop at the Italian side, but somehow the local media still thought that Manchester United would be a possible destination for him.
Yesterday, Tuttosport mentioned the Red Devils as the most likely side to land him, both because they can spend more money and would also have two players to give in case of a swap.
Now the player’s departure has been confirmed by the Inter Milan director Walter Sabatini in an interview to Portuguese newspaper O Jogo today.
“We didn’t receive concrete offers, but we know that João Mario has the World Cup and wants to play more. We’ll see what we’ll do now in January, we’ll meet in the next few days to decide it”, Sabatini told O Jogo.
Asked if Spanish side Valencia would be a good destination for João Mario, the official said: “It would be a very inteligent transfer from their part, even because we’ve been doing many deals with Valencia, we’ve got great relations”.
Manchester United are not mentioned in the story this time, as actually only Valencia are named.
On Monday, we looked at reports in both Gazzetta and Corriere dello Sport claiming the Red Devils had ‘gone cold’ on the idea of bringing in Joao Mario.
We still doubt that José Mourinho would go for João Mário anyway, and even in case he does, Sabatini has just confirmed that no offers have arrived so far.
