On Monday, it was made very clear by Corriere dello Sport that José Mourinho didn’t want to see Henrikh Mkhitaryan leave Manchester United on a loan this winter, seemingly preferring for him to exit the club permanently instead.

Inter’s interest in the player has led to a number of newspapers running stories on the Armenia international’s future, and Gazzetta dello Sport, never one to let another newspaper tell them what to do, go against their competition and report on Tuesday the Serie A side are working on a loan.

To be more precise, Inter are hoping they can find a ‘friend’ in their former manager, allowing them to get the 28-year-old attacking midfielder on a loan with a non-compulsory view to buy.

That would mean a fixed price would be set, but if the Italian club aren’t pleased with his performances during his temporary stay with them, they could just ship him back to Old Trafford with a ‘return to sender’ stamp stuck to his forehead.

Why Manchester United would agree to this, we’re not too sure, as they’d get nothing out of it and would run a high risk of ending up with a Mkhitaryan shaped problem to deal with next summer.

The more this goes on, the less likely it seems, and with José Mourinho’s alleged interest in Joao Mario quickly disappearing, there’s little chance of Inter getting their man.
