Argentine side River Plate are ‘in constant communication’ with Manuel Lanzini’s father as he gears up to leave West Ham at the end of the season.

That’s according to TNT Sports and journalist Maxi Grillo, who say River would be more than interested in signing Lanzini if he is willing to return to his homeland.

The 30-year-old’s contract with West Ham expires in the summer and he is set to depart at that point, with neither he nor the Hammers seemingly interested in extending his six year stay at the club.

Where he ends up remains to be seen, with it established that he is likely to have offers inside and outside of Europe on the table.

Indeed, a report yesterday indicated that Aston Villa and Napoli were looking at the option of signing him on a free transfer in the summer as they seek to bolster their respective squads.

River Plate have also been named as suitors on more than one occasion, with several reports since last year making it clear they’d like to have their former player back on their books.

That remains the case, according to TNT, with it explained they are ‘interested’ in signing Lanzini and even ‘excited’ about the prospect.

They’re in ‘constant communication’ with the player’s father, while his representative is a man who is close to the leadership at River, where he has several clients currently on the books.

However, any move depends on Lanzini, and he has made it clear at this point that his ‘priority’ would be to remain in Europe once he leaves West Ham.

That can always change, of course, and will depend on what offers he actually receives, and River are certainly ready to welcome him back if they can.
