This week, we’ve seen reports from the Brazilian media revealing Burnley’s interest in Wolfsburg defender Paulo Otávio.

It was reported that with the player expected to change clubs in the summer, the Clarets were one of the sides who should place an offer to land him.

It turns out that it’s now time for Wolfsburg themselves to confirm that the Burnley target will be leaving the club this summer in an official statement (via Fussball Transfers), claiming he’s not extending his contract and will walk for free.

We were in an open and honest exchange with Paulo. In the talks we had, however, we never got together. We would like to thank Paulo for a successful time together and wish him and his family all the best. Above all, we hope that he will recover quickly from his serious injury,” said club director Marcel Shafer.

That scenario clearly opens a better possibility for Burnley, who will not need to speak to Wolfsburg by having the chance of signing Paulo Otávio as a free agent.

The report from Brazil, however, claimed that the likes of Al Saad, CSKA and Mallorca are all interested in the 28-year-old as well, so the Clarets must be aware of the competition when moving to get the signing done.

Burnley obviously have on their side the offer for the player to feature in the Premier League, so that undoubtedly gives them an advantage.
