Atalanta CEO Luca Percassi is delighted to have signed Gianluca Scamacca from West Ham United in the last window.

On Thursday, the Italian club registered a 2-1 win over Sporting in the Europa League, and prior to this clash, Percassi reviewed the business carried out by his side in the summer, and his comments are relayed by Sportitalia.

West Ham took the striker from Sassuolo in 2022 and he had a disappointing season with the London team despite winning the Europa Conference League. The 24-year-old scored eight goals out of which only three were in the Premier League.

The Italy international was keen on returning to his country and had his wish fulfilled when the Serie A side acquired his signature. They reportedly paid €25m to David Moyes’ side and Percassi is now pleased with this investment.

“Scamacca? Very good boy and, from what we understand, he has great qualities and we are happy to have brought him to Bergamo,” he said.

Scamacca has scored two goals from five games this season and the Atalanta director is of the belief the former West Ham man can further improve his game under Gian Piero Gasperini.

“He will continue to grow with the coach, who has always made the attackers develop as best as possible in recent years,” Percassi explained.

The frontman returned to the pitch against Sporting after being on the sidelines since mid-September due to a hamstring injury.
