Last week, while enjoying his vacations in Brazil, Everton winger Bernard paid a visit to his former club Atletico Mineiro and got to know the works for their new stadium.

The 28-year-old bought a VIP box at the ground, which is expected to be done next year, and affirmed that he’ll be back playing for the club one day.

Well, that was more than enough for Atletico Mineiro fans to get excited about the chance of having Bernard back on the club, especially because they’ve been in a good financial condition which allows them to sign big stars.

However, journalist Jorge Nicola has now gone after this rumour, and found out that this move isn’t happening in the coming months.

He claims to have spoken to people from Atletico Mineiro who say the club can’t afford his signing this year, especially because there’s one season left in Bernard’s contract with Everton, and the Toffees would demand a fee to let him go now.

This suggest they could play the waiting game and try and bring him back on a free in a year’s time.

The Brazilian only made 18 appearances for the Goodison Park club this season, with three goals and one assist, and with a change of manager now expected at the club, it’s fair to say he needs to wait and see if he’ll be in the plans of Ancelotti’s successor or not.
