Bayern Munich can easily afford Chelsea defender Ian Maatsen’s release clause this summer, and he would welcome the move despite currently being at rivals Borussia Dortmund.

That’s according to BILD, who say the Chelsea youngster is very much on the list at Bayern as a potential replacement for Alphonso Davies.

They explain that Davies is currently flirting with a move to Real Madrid as he gears up to enter the final year of his deal at the Allianz Arena.

If that move happens, and most appear to believe that it will, then Bayern will need to find a replacement and Maatsen could be it.

He’s currently on loan at Borussia Dortmund from Chelsea and has been impressing, playing every game since January and earning rave reviews.

They have an option to make the move permanent but that would cost £35m, around €41m, and that is not affordable for Dortmund.

It’s a ‘different story’ at Bayern, who could easily afford such a fee if they sell Davies to Real Madrid, which will happen if he rejects their next contract renewal offer.

Bayern are yet to make contact with Chelsea or Maatsen about a deal, and they also have Theo Hernandez on their list of options, but Maatsen would be ‘enthusiastic’ about the switch and would like to stay in Germany.

That opens the door for a transfer to happen in the summer, although it depends on Davies moving on first.
