Brian Brobbey is set to return to Ajax from RB Leipzig after refusing a reunion with Erik ten Hag at Manchester United.

That’s according to De Telegraaf, who say the striker ‘personally called’ Manchester United’s new manager to turn down his proposal.

Brobbey spent the second half of last season on loan with Ajax after a disappointing spell with Leipzig, who he joined on a free transfer from the Dutch giants in July 2021.

His return to the Amsterdam ArenA was a big success, with him managing seven goals and one assist in 11 games in the Eredivisie and one goal in the Champions League.

He’s been linked with a permanent return to the club after Leipzig made it clear he was not a part of their plans, but negotiations have not been advancing to make it happen.

Manchester United have reportedly shown an interest in the interim, with it explained that Erik ten Hag was eyeing up another of his former players to bolster his forward line.

United have the money to satisfy Leipzig’s demands, but it seems they’ve been rejected by Brobbey regardless of that.

According to De Telegraaf, he ‘wanted nothing more’ than a return to Ajax and ‘personally called off’ a move to Manchester United during a phone call with Ten Hag.

He’s now set to get his wish after Ajax struck an agreement with Leipzig for a €17m deal this morning. Brobbey already agreed on personal terms weeks ago on a deal until 2027.

Any move to Old Trafford is now completely off of the cards, then, and Ten Hag will have to look elsewhere for his potential striker reinforcement.
