Barcelona have been on the verge of signing Lautaro Martinez for weeks. The Catalan sport media have been all over the story, with various claims about players being used to bring Inter Milan’s price down.

Now, Marca suggest the transfer is wobbling.

They state Real Madrid have entered the picture. It’s claimed the club held a meeting and talks, presumably with the player’s representatives, and that so did Manchester United.

However, Martinez has always preferred a move to Barcelona, so he dismissed the Madrid and Old Trafford options, and put all his eggs in the Barca basket. Despite that, the Blaugrana are struggling to agree a deal and face the prospect of upsetting their squad even if they do so.

Marca explain Barcelona have asked their players to take a pay cut for next season, due to the Covid-19 crisis, and that doesn’t balance well with potentially spending €100m, or more, on a signing.

Real Madrid are now ‘attentive’ to the situation, and the Spanish newspaper presents Manchester United as being in the same situation. It’s claimed Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s side are continually looking for a new striker, and that they’ve met Martinez’s agents.

This still feels like one for Barcelona to win, and the interest of others is perhaps overplayed to help add drama.
