Chelsea’s César Azpilicueta and Barcelona have ‘maximum optimism’ the defender’s move to the Camp Nou can become a reality in the coming days, according to Mundo Deportivo.

Last week, the La Liga side sent their first formal offer to the Blues and it was deemed low. Despite this, Barca believe Chelsea will let him leave for a low fee.

Azpilicueta’s exit depends on the English club bringing in a replacement and Mundo state RB Leipzig’s Joško Gvardiol is the ‘number one’ target for Thomas Tuchel.

Sport have a report on the Blues man and also on the Croatia international. Chelsea were initially reluctant to accept the Blaugrana’s offer, but it’s believed they will end up accepting the proposal that is around €4-5m. Sport say the deal should go through, barring any unforeseen events.

The report explains there is ‘already a principle of agreement’ between the two clubs for the player’s transfer. In addition to this, he’s had an agreement in place Xavi Hernández’s side for several weeks.

Tuchel’s side want to sign the ex-Marseille man’s replacement before sanctioning his sale. This is where Gvardiol comes into the picture as he is the ‘chosen one’.

The report then states the Leipzig defender could ‘soon sign for Chelsea’ and this development will open the door for Azpilicueta to join Barcelona.
