The Chilean press normally doesn’t make big things out of European football. Although they always following the likes of Alexis Sanchez, Claudio Bravo and Arturo Vidal, it’s rare for them to make a huge analysis of what’s going on in the top leagues.

But there’s a reason for a big rant today, written by La Tercera’s journalist Juan Cristóbal Guarello. The reason for it? He’s not happy with all the attention Manchester United got in the past week.

Guarello didn’t like the Red Devils’ display against Sevilla for the Champions League last Wednesday. He says it was a ‘bad game’, which we all agree to.

The problem is that when checking Facebook, Youtube and other media channels, the journalist expected the outlets to be talking about the second game, while they were still discussing the 0-0 draw.

He got angry with so many stories analysing José Mourinho’s tactics, Alexis Sanchez’ poor display, the changes that should be made in the team, and even the reaction from Paul Scholes, Rio Ferdinand and Frank Lampard to De Gea’s save.

Guarello questions the attention the media gives to such boring games, as every time club like United, Real Madrid or Bayern Munich play, there are non important subjects being more discussed than they should. That’s why he says that ‘the epic is what is sold’.

Two finish his story, two paragraphs sum up what is going on in the journalist’s head. Here’s the translation.

“Did Mourinho send his team to defend his visit? Tremendous novelty. Alexis Sanchez barely touched it? It is not the first time, he will play better. Is Gea a good goalkeeper? Sure, but do not make up hallucinations with a normal save.

Enough. I know that nowadays the epic is what sells. But, old man, a little moderation. Do you know how many bad games Ajax of Kovacs, Santos of Pelé, Milan of Sacchi, Barcelona of Cruyff, Real Madrid of Di Stéfano or Barcelona of Messi played? Let’s hide the smoke machine for a while please.”
