Sassuolo CEO Giovanni Carnevali has revealed Gianluca Scamacca is edging closer towards making a switch to West Ham United.
Corriere dello Sport on Sunday published a lengthy interview with the Serie A side’s chief. He is currently isolating after testing positive for Covid for the second time.
“I am at home with Covid, and for the second time in a few months. The first, between December and January, while we were selling [Jeremie] Boga at Atalanta: was positive for 27 days. To think, the virus came back just in the days when we gave Scamacca to West Ham,” he said.
When Carnevali was told he can console himself with €60m raised from Boga’s sale and the Italy international’s impending move to West Ham, he revealed the details of the agreement with the Hammers for Scamacca.
“€22m Boga, €36m plus €6m bonuses and 10 percent on resale for Scamacca. Sounds good to me, right? Also, because West Ham are a selling club,” Carnevali added.
Scamacca’s transfer to West Ham has not been made official yet. On Saturday, multiple reports coming out of the Italian press stated he will travel to London in the coming days to carry out medical tests before signing the contract with the Premier League side.
Ivan Zazzaroni carried out the interview for the newspaper and he informed Carnevali that he didn’t expect Scamacca to make it to Italy’s national team. This is when the Serie A side’s chief detailed where the player can further improve his game.
“He is the present and the future of Italy, a complete striker, he has improved a lot in the last year, he still has untapped potential,” Carnevali explained.
“He has physical structure, technique, he must learn to play more with his teammates. And he has an extraordinary shot, when he kicks it the ball has a different sound. He is also a great guy, very good.”
