In need of a late midfield reinforcement in the summer, Chelsea turned their attention to the Italian market where they struck a deal with Juventus for the loan of Denis Zakaria.

The defensive midfielder, who had only signed for the Serie A side a few months prior, wanted to try something new as he was finding it hard to fit into Max Allegri’s plans, and so jumped at the chance to move to the Blues.

While it looked very promising at first, Thomas Tuchel never called on him, and Graham Potter has only given him limited chances, which he has tried to make the most of.

Either way, he hasn’t shown enough to convince the Chelsea manager to start him regularly, and while the Premier League side have the possibility of making the deal permanent, that won’t be happening.

This is what Gazzetta dello Sport are reporting on Wednesday, looking at how Juventus’ loanees are doing.

Leaving Zakaria until last, since the list is in alphabetical order, the outlet state that while Chelsea have ‘taken charge of his wages for the season’, they will ‘hardly want to exercise the right of redemption’.

Basically, he will return to Juventus, where they will ‘evaluation his position for next summer’, unless someone else comes knocking for him, of course.
