Chelsea are eyeing a move for Atlético Madrid defender José Maria Gimenez as they look to solve their defensive issues in the January transfer window.
That’s according to journalist Rudy Galetti, who today covers a potential move for the defender.
He explains that Graham Potter’s side currently ‘concede a lot’ and the feeling in the club is that there are ‘so many problems in defence’ that need to be fixed.
The defender could be leaving Atlético Madrid, who need to raise money following their failure to qualify for the Champions League group stages, something which has left a €30m hole in the club’s finances.
The Spanish side need to fix those ‘financial difficulties’ with sales in January, with several reports claiming that players have been put on the sale list.
It seems Gimenez has now been added to it and Chelsea ‘could take advantage of this’ after the World Cup by turning their interest in the Uruguayan into ‘something more concrete’ as they bid to solve their defensive issues with more spending.
