On Thursday, we covered claims from Brazil that AS Monaco have matched Chelsea’s offer to sign Deivid Washington. It was also said the Santos star would prefer to join the Blues despite the Ligue 1 side trying to tempt him with their sporting project.

Later that day, UOL stated the 18-year-old has decided to join the west London club and is expected to sign a six-year deal with them.

O Dia have backed it up and then provide a background on how Chelsea won the transfer battle.

It’s claimed Mauricio Pochettino’s side have offered €15m plus €5m bonuses and it has been accepted by the Brazilian club. The report also states Santos have rejected Monaco’s proposal because the youngster has expressed his desire to join Chelsea.

Washington came up through Santos’ academy before making his way into their first team earlier this year. He has scored two goals from 16 games for their senior team.

The youngster’s profile and potential had attracted attention from Atlético Madrid, Real Madrid and Borussia Dortmund. Chelsea have been successful in beating competition from several top European clubs.

After all parties agreed for the transfer, O Dia state Washington’s sale to the English club should be made official ‘in the coming days’.
