Chelsea are now taking the final steps to complete the signing of Andrey Santos from Vasco da Gama, according to reports from Brazil.

Journalist Venê Casagrande claims that the Blues and the Cruzmaltino have a meeting on Wednesday to close the deal.

It’s claimed that Chelsea are paying an initial amount of €12.5m for the player, in two instalments: one at the time of the signing and another in January 2024.

According to Casagrande, Andrey is set to fly to England and apply for the working visa. In case he doesn’t succeed, then he’s heading back to Vasco and staying on loan for six more months.

Since the Brazilian side only have 70% of the player’s rights, they’re only keeping €8.75m from that fee. That’s seen as outrageous by their fans, who believe the player should be worth a lot more.

Chelsea have nothing to do with it, though, and could be finding a bargain when completing this deal. Now since the midfielder hasn’t even featured in Brazil’s first division, he should take a while to adapt and show up as a real reinforcement for the Blues.
