Chelsea are ‘working’ to sign Montpellier star Elye Wahi in the summer window, according to L’Equipe.

The Ligue 1 side’s president, Laurent Nicollin, admitted over the weekend that a German and an English club are battling with each other for the striker’s signature.

He didn’t reveal the details of these clubs but L’Equipe say they are Eintracht Frankfurt and Chelsea.

The former have already approached the French club for the 20-year-old, even with Randal Kolo Muani still at the club. They are set to make an offer for him.

The newspaper warns the Bundesliga side to act fast because of the competition they will face from the Blues, who have now positioned themselves to sign Wahi.

They add Mauricio Pochettino’s side have been negotiating for ‘several days’, without specifying if it’s with the agent, the Ligue 1 side or both. It’s claimed Chelsea should make a ‘first offer’ to Montpellier ‘this week’.

There’s no mention of the fee the Premier League side are planning to offer. L’Equipe say Montpellier are hoping to collect €30m for the France U21 international.

Wahi, who has already rejected Union Berlin, Lazio and AFC Bournemouth, is analysing the best option for his future. He managed 19 goals and six assists from 33 games last season.
