Brendan Rodgers last week talked down the idea of Philippe Coutinho signing for Leicester.

The links had been there, and there’s still insistence in Spain there was something in it, but the finances of a deal are thought to be too high.

Whilst covering that, Catalan newspaper Sport report the Premier League is the ‘main market’ for Coutinho, yet Chelsea are the only other club named in their report.

Despite the hope of a battle among English clubs for the player, that doesn’t appear to be happening, and it’ll be a blow to Barcelona’s hopes of getting a big fee.

‘Chelsea are the favourite’ Premier League club at the moment, yet it’s stated Barcelona are looking for €100m.

That’s a wholly unrealistic fee, and Barcelona will have to drop their asking price if they want a permanent exit this summer. Likelier is a loan deal, whether that have an optional or mandatory buying clause, with a fee lower than €100m in summer 2021.

That would sound better for Chelsea, and it’s been previously reported that the option could be set at €70m.
