Barcelona are looking for a club to give them €100m for Philippe Coutinho.

They’re going to struggle and will almost certainly have to bring that price down, and likely agree to an initial loan too, but they’ve long believed a Premier League club will be the solution for them.

Newcastle United’s impending Saudi takeover has seen the Magpies linked with transfers around Europe, including potentially taking Coutinho from Barcelona.

Sport talk this prospect down, at least for now.

It’s explained Newcastle United have a ‘project’ and that will revolve around whoever becomes manager of the club. They don’t want to go out and negotiate big signings without knowing the players would suit whoever agrees to take the role.

That would fit in with claims from around Europe that Newcastle United want to appoint a manager and Director of Football who will work well together, and who have a good relationship from the start.

Going out and making huge signings, and storing up FFP problems, wouldn’t fit with that.
