Other than mocking the height of an opponent during USA – Mexico back in September, Chelsea’s Matt Miazga’s 2018-19 season has been rather uneventful, and not in a good way.

The 23-year-old was sent to Nantes in Ligue 1 this season to get some first-team minutes under his belt, and it looked like that was going to happen early on in the campaign, starting eight of the first nine games, but then came the match against Bordeaux.

At fault for two of the three goals conceded in the 3-0 defeat, Miazga was immediately taken out of the team by Vahid Halilhodzic, who has only played him once since, earlier this month in a 4-1 win over Chateauroux in the Coupe de France.

Otherwise, the Chelsea loanee has either been out of the squad or on the bench without being subbed on.

And, according to Ouest-France on Monday, that game against Chateauroux could very well be have been his last in a Nantes shirt as the local newspaper report the United States international is back in England to ‘finalise his return to Chelsea’.

This scenario was already talked about back in November, as they point out, and it’s now happening.

The question now is, what will Chelsea do with Miazga next?

An extra headache for Maurizio Sarri’s staff.
