Celtic aren’t expected to progress from their Champions League group, unless Lazio continue to stumble through their season.

That’s the impression presented by former Biancoceleste striker Bruno Giordano today anyway, as he’s commented on Maurizio Sarri’s side ahead of the clash with Celtic this week.

La Lazio Siamo Noi cover his comments today and explain that the clash with Brendan Rodgers’ side is seen as a ‘restarting point’ of the season for Lazio, who have struggled early on this season.

Maurizio Sarri is yet to find the right balance for his team, with them not dangerous at one end and leaking goals at the other.

That’s a bad mix for any team and Lazio have suffered from it so far, something they are hoping to reverse against Celtic.

The blame is being spread around at this moment in time, with some criticising the manager, others those above him for failing to deliver in the transfer market. For Giordano, it’s a case of both.

“The fault lies with the team and the coach. The club may have made a mistake in the transfer market, but you cannot make such a miserable haul,” he said.

“The players didn’t just arrive late to us, but also to the other teams. Even Milinkovic’s departure should not be a mitigating factor.

“There has been little serenity since the beginning of the season because the club has signed good players for Sarri. It’s obvious that the coaches have to invent something if things don’t go well.

“In Glasgow it won’t be decisive, but it will draw a good line. Lazio, together with Atletico, are the teams accredited to progress to the next round, but if they continue to play like this, it will be difficult. Imagining Lazio out of the Champions League with this group would be a bad thing.”

Celtic have the chance to put the pressure on further, and the atmosphere in Glasgow could help them heap more pressure on a struggling Lazio side.
