Earlier today, we covered the latest from the Kalidou Koulibaly to Manchester City saga from Il Mattino and Gazzetta dello Sport.

The bottom line was there was optimism of a deal getting done following Aurelio De Laurentiis’ interview on Thursday where he admitted he wouldn’t turn down big offers for his players anymore.

However, City had yet to present him with an offer he deemed actually acceptable for the centre-back, and it was up to Fali Ramadani, Koulibaly’s agent, to be the intermediary in all this.

This is all stems back from the deal taking Jorginho to Chelsea, as the Italy international seemed set for a move to the Etihad only to join Maurizio Sarri at Stamford Bridge at the last minute.

That didn’t sit well with those in charge at Manchester City, and it’s one of the reasons reported as to why the talks are taking place between the clubs directly.

This has now been confirmed by De Laurentiis himself as he spoke in a press conference on Friday, relayed by Calciomercato.

He said about the Koulibaly talks: “City claims they can’t speak with us about the Jorginho problem, so how can we peacefully negotiate the sale of the player?”

He’s got a point, and perhaps that’s why things have been taking so long.

Maybe it’s time for Txiki Begiristain and co. to swallow they pride, pick up the phone and do it themselves if they want to sign the Senegalese.
