Ajax youngster Diant Ramaj has revealed how he had now fears over making his debut for the club against Brighton earlier in the season, as things literally couldn’t get worse at the Dutch club.

The 22-year-old has been speaking to Ajax Life magazine about his time in the Netherlands so far after joining Ajax in the summer.

He joined the Dutch side in a €5m deal from Eintracht Frankfurt as part of Sven Mislintat’s major rebuild of the club.

As has been well covered by this point, that plan did not work out, with most of the signings yet to work out and the club finding themselves in danger of relegation before manager Maurice Steijn, who was also appointed in the summer, was eventually sacked.

Ramaj had to wait for his chance to impress after originally joining as a back up to Jay Gorter and was handed his full debut in the Europa League clash with Brighton in October.

That was naturally a big moment for the youngster, with Brighton a hot topic following their impressive performances under Roberto de Zerbi last season.

Ramaj, though, insists he had no fears or concerns ahead of the game as it occurred to him that they were already in dire straits.

“I didn’t listen to anything during that period,” he said.

“I couldn’t defend myself anyway. I didn’t get a chance to show what I could do, so what others said about me had no basis in fact. I hope that I have now managed to convince supporters a little.

“Everything came together. At one point I thought: the results at the club are shit, things couldn’t get any worse in that respect, so what could really go wrong? It can hardly get worse than that. And I knew how to let it go when I had to.”
