Brighton and Hove Albion star Moises Caicedo has revealed the conversation he had with manager Roberto de Zerbi before signing a new deal at the club, and what his ‘dreams’ are moving forwards.

Caicedo has been one of the stars of the show for the Seagulls since returning from a loan spell at Beerschot in January last year.

Since then he’s been a permanent member of the first team and impressed, earning rave reviews under De Zerbi and predecessor Graham Potter.

He was heavily linked with a move away from the club in January, with Arsenal pushing hard to secure his signature and seeing a big bid rejected.

Brighton made it clear to them that Caicedo was a part of their plans moving forwards and they had no intention of selling as a result, something they reiterated last week when they convinced the player to sign a new deal until 2027.

That’s something he was delighted to do, insisting he is happy where he is, something he reiterated to his manager.

“I am very happy with the new contract I signed, the truth is that the club has helped me a lot since I arrived… It is the club that opened the doors for me in Europe,” he told Telemundo Deportes.

“Now I am focused on doing things well, finishing the season well, giving it all up and fighting for a place in the Champions League.

“De Zerbi asked me if I was happy here; I am very happy to work with him, because he has helped me a lot.

“I really appreciate what he has done for me. He is very detailed, sometimes he complained to me but I do it because I know that this will help us a lot for the future.”

Caicedo and Brighton are now focused on the remainder of the season and finalising what could be a momentous campaign for them.

They’re currently 8th in the table after 24 games with 38 points to their name, just three points outside the top six and seven behind Tottenham in fourth.

A European place next season is very much in their grasp as well as a place in the FA Cup semi-finals after they were drawn against Grimsby Town in the quarters.

Caicedo is keen to ensure those opportunities do not pass them by, but admits his dream for Brighton is much higher.

“At 21 years old I have many dreams, but for now I am here and the first one I have is to bring the FA Cup to the club, then qualify for the Champions League, win something with my team,” he added.

“We keep dreaming of the UCL, we know it will be very difficult to reach the Champions League, but it is our goal and we are working hard for Brighton to be there.

“It is one of my dreams to listen to the Champions League anthem playing, if watching on TV you get excited and it makes your skin crawl, imagine yourself in the field. We are fighting for that.”
