Tuesday’s edition of Record has a big article explaining Sporting’s team want to ‘reward’ Bruno Fernandes for his incredible season.
The midfielder scored a hat-trick at the weekend, which takes the 24 year old’s totals to 31 goals and 16 assists this season.
That has caught the attention of several clubs, with Manchester City thought to be pushing ahead for a transfer, according to multiple claims from Portugal over the past couple of weeks.
But Bruno isn’t at the top of the Portuguese league’s goalscoring charts. That place belongs to Benfica’s Haris Seferović, who has 21 league goals compared to 19 for Bruno.
Sporting’s players want to do all they can to change that in the two matches left.
Interestingly, Record state this partnership could happen even if City’s move for Bruno collapses.
The Portuguese newspaper, as they have done on several occasions, calm the recent reports. After claims the move is ‘practically done’, they say their information suggests otherwise: ‘this information (done deal claims) does not correspond to the truth and the negotiations are not completed for the moment.’
Manchester United are still stated as interested, although there’s no claims on what the club is doing other than ‘being attentive to the situation’.
