As Philippe Coutinho made his season debut for Liverpool last night, Brazilian website UOL had a journalist at the stadium just to follow the midfielder’s steps.

From the lineup to Coutinho’s substitution into the game, reporter Caio Carrieri covered fan reaction to the player’s return to Anfield, which was actually pretty good.

Coutinho was applauded several times last night, from when his name was announced in the stadium, to his run when Jurgen Klopp called him, and even after the few mistakes he made during the 14 minutes he was on the pitch.

But apart from everything we’ve seen on TV, the most interesting part is how Coutinho has been avoiding talking to the press.

The Brazilian outlet reports Coutinho left the dressing room ‘escorted’ by a Liverpool press officer and didn’t stop to talk to the reporters. When asked to do so, he left the stadium doors with an ’embarrassed smile’.

Although the Brazilian kept his silence, UOL still managed to speak to Sadio Mane, who talked about the importance that Coutinho has in the squad: “It’s always good to play alongside him. He’s one of our best players so I have no doubt that he will be important for us in the season.”
